Overview

The ONIMS offers a four-year undergraduate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (BS MLT). Clinical laboratory tests are used to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology, an area of allied health. At ONIMS, MLT graduates will obtain the skills that includes developing and establishing procedures for collecting, processing and analyzing biological specimens with Standard Protocols and Quality Assurance to provide best healthcare practices. They are given access to advanced techniques of desk-based practical training and supervised clinical rotation to help them understand how to operate sophisticated electronic devices for the analysis of blood, body fluids, and other substances. Medical Laboratory Technologists are an integral part of the healthcare system, working together with physicians and other health care staff for diagnosing, monitoring and prevention of the disease and have excellent command over medical disciplines such as clinical biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology. The graduates of the program may pursue their career as Laboratory Managers, Education Coordinators, College or University Medical Technology Faculty, Research Laboratory Technologists, Forensic Lab Scientists, Product Specialists or Technical Advisors for Laboratory Equipment or Chemicals etc.

BS Medical Lab Technology 

BS-MLT program will provide the knowledge and practical skill to the medical lab trainees, who would be able to:

    • Learn and apply theory and techniques in the medical pathology laboratory
    • Avoid problems pertaining to collecting, transporting, handling and conducting tests on laboratory samples
    • Perform and monitor quality control in the laboratory
    • Confidently and correctly carry out all the bench work required for diagnostic tests in various discipline of pathology
    • Demonstrate proper handling and preventative maintenance of instruments
    • Demonstrate ethical behavior and decision making.
    • Assist the consultant in research
    • Convey timely laboratory results to the clinicians

Eligibility Criteria

Duration: The duration required to complete this degree is 04 years.

Semesters: Students are required to pass 08 semesters for the completion of this degree.

Credit Hours: Students must complete 124 credit hours for this degree.

Eligibility: At least 50% marks in F.Sc (Pre-Medical)
